In the blink of an eye, everything can change. You’re having the time of your life when all of a sudden you get that life-changing phone call. Someone close to you has died, and things will never be the same.
You’re driving along listening to your favorite music, feeling the warmth of the sun on your skin, feeling the breeze through the open windows. Someone pulls out in front of you and you don’t have time to react. In the blink of an eye, your entire life changed and you’ll never be physically able again.
Life is unpredictable. So often we want to control it, we want things to stay the same, or maybe we want them to change. We need to realize that most things are out of control and in the blink of an eye, life can be much different after the blink than it was before, and the blink was completely out of our control.
You can see this fact of life as something bad, or you can view it as something beautiful. Although we may not give conscious thought to the unpredictability of life, we all at least understand it, deep down. Everything can change. It’s beautiful. Moments are fleeting, emotions can turn 180 degrees on a dime, and we can’t do anything other than go with the flow.
This past July 4th I had some friends over. Everyone was laughing, having a good time. Beers, campfire, food, fireworks. All of a sudden my friend’s dog freaked out at the explosion of a firework and ran into the street and got slammed by a car. And everyone’s mood immediately went from happy to sad and scared. In the blink of an eye. In a matter of three seconds everything changed.
For me it put everything in perspective. It taught me even more to really appreciate the good times because they can change in the blink of an eye. So as you sit there reading this, whether you’re happy or sad, realize it’s temporary and nothing is constant. Go with the flow of life and enjoy all you can.
Thank god the dog, Daisy, survived with minor injuries. It wasn’t looking good, but she pulled through. Daisy, we’ll take you on a hike soon with Buddy and Rigs and everything will be beautiful. Glad you’re okay girl 🙂

Steve, that’s scary stuff man, so sorry to hear it. Although it may be impossible to feel this way now, hopefully in the future you can look back on it as something that resulted in some positives in your life (at that future time) that never would have come about without the accident. Be good man.
