He sat with his back to the tree, eyes closed, listening. There was only the music of the forest, the summer breeze tickling the leaves which shimmered back and forth, waving at their guest below, welcoming him to their protective canopy. The songbirds chirped from the swaying treetops, and in the distance a woodpecker battered his head, giving rhythm to the music.
He smiled to acknowledge them all, took a deep breath through his nose, enjoying the sweet, pure mountain air, and as he exhaled, complete relaxation coursed slowly from the top of his head to his ears, to his face and jaw, down through his neck, into his shoulders, down his arms and into his fingertips, through his torso and legs and down to his toes. He lost awareness of his body and became a single point of consciousness immersed in the divine melodies around him. Mother Nature gently stroked her living instruments with the kind of skill only attainable in eternity, and bit by bit the melodies joined to create a wonderfully complex symphony, a symphony of life.
