If there is a god, and I believe there is, then it’s possible we’re all just little pieces of god in a similar way to how all of our cells are little pieces of us.
First, I don’t mean a personal god as in a human-like entity who hears our prayers and grants them. I just mean a master designer of our universe. Some entity beyond the limits of our comprehension.
Each of us has trillions and trillions of individual cells in our body. Each of these cells has a specific function, and within its framework, it performs its functions with a relative degree of freedom. But outside of its framework, it can’t really operate. What I mean is that, for example, a butthole cell can’t perform the functions of a brain cell. If we are the cells of our designer, the master consciousness, the analogy is that a bird, as a different kind of cell of this master consciousness, can’t perform the functions that we humans can.
So all of our bodies’ individual little cells are performing their various functions within their frameworks, and on some level, they are conscious. But they are far simpler than their sum, which is we as humans, and they are incapable of comprehending the fact that they are just little tiny parts of a larger, more complex consciousness. In the same way, we can’t conceive of the master consciousness which we compose. We’re all just little tiny cells operating within our human framework, and our sum consciousness, god, is so incredibly vast and complex that we can’t even conceive of what he is, or what he’s capable of. And if we could, there would be no way to put it into our human words, just as our cells wouldn’t be able to verbalize what we are in their limited cell language.
It can go backwards from cells as well. Each cell is composed of many trillions of atoms. Maybe each atom has a tiny little bit of consciousness, and their sum is the more complex consciousness of the cell. And maybe you can continue going backwards from atoms to much smaller things we don’t even know about.
You can surely go forward from humans and Earth. What if our entire universe, the hundreds of billions of galaxies each with their hundreds of billions of stars (and planets), were just an atom of a water droplet on the nipple of some enormous being? What if each of the atoms in our universe were an entire universe itself?
I’m reminded of the really cool ending to the movie Men in Black (38 seconds):
While this is all cool to think about, what’s the point?
The point is: it’s possible, likely even, that our relationship to the entire universe, to its designer, god, whatever, is analogous to our cells’ relationship to us as humans. That is, they are very limited in their understanding of the grand scheme of things, what they compose. Although thanks to scientific advancements, we humans are quite egotistical in that we think we know what’s what, the truth is that we really know very little. Compared to our cells and other less complex creatures, we are the smartest, as far as we know. But in the grander scheme of things, we really don’t know shit. Not only do we not know shit, but we’re incapable of comprehending the grander scheme of things because we’re too simply-equipped for it.
To put it simply: we don’t really matter as much as we think. Maybe we should stop being so serious. Maybe we should just enjoy ourselves while we can before we, as cells, die and our physical remains regenerate into new cells, just like the cells of your body have been dying and regenerating by the thousands in the time you’ve spent on this page.
On the bright side, after we die and are free from the physical constraints of this world, everything we are currently incapable of comprehending will be made clear to us, and we will realize that we always knew and understood reality as it truly is. Then we’re gonna wanna do it all over again.
See you on the other side 😉
(Stay tuned for tomorrow’s post, a fictional short story. I’m only writing this here to hold myself accountable so I write it.)

The other side of the coin is…. your explanation of the fractal nature of the cosmos is the simplest, stupidest, most childish interpolation that could possibly be made.
You are a peasant who thinks like a peasant, writes like one, and doesn’t have the intelligence even to grasp this most obvious point.
A few crucial points you may wish to consider if you ever expect to develop enough intelligence to contemplate abstract matters and communicate them in an intelligent manner:
1: It’s better to remain silent and risk seeming a fool than opening you mouth (or blog) only to remove all doubt.
2: An intelligent mind is able to hold two opposing values as simultaneously true or false at the same time on the same question.
3: True science gathers available (empirical) evidence while at the same time ruling nothing out.
4: Occam’s razor is an idiot test. Sometimes things ARE complicated.
Easy there, Texas.
I disagree with #1, have no clue what #2 means, I like #3, and for #4, I don’t think anyone considers Occam’s razor an absolute. Anyway, I don’t see how my musings above are the simplest explanation. It seems pretty complicated, at least to my peasant brain.
Thanks for reading, penis breath 😉
I, for me liked the article and the metaphor and I dont think you were offering an explanation of how “it” all works, just an insight. I do think when it comes down to it we know so little but that we are all here to make the best out of this experience.
Thanks Paola, I agree – we’re just here to learn and expand our consciousness. Hope things are good in Sweden!
[…] Maybe Earth as a whole has a single consciousness like we do and it interacts with the consciousnesses of other planets in the universe not unlike the way in which we communicate with other humans. Maybe we humans are actually just cells. […]
